The featured song from the new Forenzics album SHADES AND ECHOES (also out today) is the delightful duet “Unlikely Friend” with guest vocalist Megan Washington joining Tim Finn and Eddie Rayner. “Unlikely Friend” is the third single to be taken from the album. Tim Finn took the lead with conjuring and creating the lyrics and melody for this song, which beckoned for a strong harmony vocal which then morphed into the guest vocal appearance from Megan Washington. “I’d worked with Megan before” says Tim. “We’d written a song together on my album "The View is Worth The Climb" and she’s toured with me as well”. “We just get on. She’s really talented, a great singer. I knew it had to be her. She’d already heard the album and loved it, so she crafted the harmony part and Eddie mixed it into the track. Of course it works beautifully!” The inception of this and several other songs included on the Forenzics album was created out of ‘jams’ Eddie Rayner did with his (other) ensemble Double Life. “My years in Split Enz, followed by other musical improv collaborations, informed my vision of the instrumental ensemble we called Double Life” says Eddie. “I wanted to jam, just like the Enz did-at rehearsals, during the occasional soundcheck, and most magically, on the odd occasion, at gigs. I chose players, firstly who I knew had the chops to keep up with whatever was thrown at them musically….secondly, who had the enthusiasm and curiosity to wade in, unaware of where the abyss started...and lastly, to go the distance with me.” “So with myself, Pat Kuhtze (drums), Adrian Stuckey (bass) and Mark Dennison (sax & flutes) set up at my home studio we jammed for around 6 hours doing this improvisational procedure” continues Eddie. “I spent the next few weeks massaging (overdubbing, structuring, mixing) the so-called jams into finished instrumentals. The song titles, always elusive, often alluded to an atmosphere or feeling emitted by the music itself”. The Forenzics repertoire, like paintings in an exhibition, is an album of individual works that together form an immersive and cohesive whole. It is a genuine sabbatical journey into the artistic unknown, mapped out by two artists at the height of their creative powers. ORDER THE ALBUM HERE FORENZICS − 'UNLIKELY FRIEND'
