Split Enz Members Eddie Rayner & Tim Finn Announce Debut Record For New Band, Forenzics
Forenzics (which is made up of former Split Enz members Eddie Rayner and Tim Finn) have announced that they’ll be releasing a new album, Shades And Echoes on February 4th, 2022.
To celebrate the announcement of their debut album, they’ve released their lead single, Chances Are, and it’s very captivating and charming, as you’d expect from a song written by former Split Enz members. The project draws from sections (or “shades and echoes”) of classic Split Enz songs, which have then been turned into totally new ideas. Eagle-eared fans might notice that Chances Are contains a small snippet of 1975 Split Enz track "Spellbound". Speaking about the project, Eddie says, “Post Enz, I’d been wanting to start a jamming/recording band… my belief being that it’s actually impossible to fail at creating something from nothing, given a willing spirit, enthusiasm to believe in the concept and process, and a positive and upbeat attitude by all involved.” The album will also feature fellow Split Enz member Noel Crombie, Australian favourite Megan Washington and frequent collaborator Phil Manzanera, who all recorded their parts for the album during lockdown. While Tim and Eddie live in Auckland, they also shared files back and forth, creating via distance. Tim notes, “I love working this way, sharing files. You work when you want to, and my singing has an unforced intimacy that is very hard to achieve when there is someone else in the room.” Check out Chances Are, and stay tuned for Shades And Echoes early next year. We’re excited to hear what these two have been busy cooking up.
