John Vella feat. Lollies
A song about what it takes to relocate your life to follow your dreams.
After the recent ARIA and Golden Guitar nominations as producer of Andy Golledge’s‘Strength Of A Queen’, John Vella returns to releasing his own music with a masterful new pop offering. An international affair of Aussies, ‘Homesick’ was written with fellow Australians Clare Reynolds and Jordie Lane, soon after meeting and performing for Sounds Australia alongside the duo in Nashville at Americana Music Week.
“I met Clare and Jordie at the Bluebird in Nashville and was immediately taken by their music and their performance. Soon afterward I caught their show in New York and they came over to write a song. It was such pure writing experience. We very quickly knew that we were writing about what it takes to relocate your life to follow your dreams, an experience we had all shared.”
‘Homesick’ is atmospheric pop at its finest. Haunting vocals that strike a chord, balanced perfectly with real performances and modern production. Lane and Reynolds a.k.a Lollies played significant roles in the production, producing and performing parts of the arrangement remotely from their Nashville studio.
Vella also engaged another Aussie abroad, Los Angeles based drummer and producer Mike Avenaim to record and produce the drums, and brought the track home to Sydney to mix with mastering engineer Paul Stefanidis.
“I knew that Mike and Paul would be able to help me take this track to where it needed to go. Mike is such an amazing drummer and producer with so much knowledge and experience in the L.A pop scene, and Paul’s mixing and mastering skills brought the world class sound that we needed. We wanted to make this track sonically competitive with the best U.S pop. It’s a really high bar and I think we’ve achieved that. It was a bonus to do it with such good friends.”
'Homesick' is available on all streaming platforms on December 7.
