6/11/2024

Multi-award-winning songwriter and producer Alex Burnett has written, co-written or produced songs that have been streamed over 1.4 billion times.
Those numbers truly speak for themselves, so it’s no surprise that Craig Redfearn saw the immense value of signing Alex Burnett, and those songs which have sound tracked so many lives, to ORiGiN Music Publishing.

Craig Redfearn, Chief Operating Officer of ORiGiN Music Publishing, says of the signing, “It’s truly an honour to welcome Alex Burnett and his extensive catalogue to ORiGiN Music Publishing. Alex is one of Australia’s premier songwriters and producers, who stands tall on a global level, having garnered over 1.4 billion streams. Those numbers don’t lie.

As a songwriter, Alex has the unique ability to capture the essence of an artist’s voice and help project their stories to the world, proving time and time again that he can write with any artist, across any genre and deliver truly inspiring and original songs. When producing, Alex instils a sense of trust in the studio, developing a space for artists to create music that often seemed out of their reach. Recent collaborations with Hockey Dad and Thelma Plum have been nothing short of phenomenal, with both artists releasing career highlight albums. With more incredible projects in the works that will no doubt take him to an even greater level, we’re rapt to partner with Alex and work closely with him and his team.”

Alex Burnett adds “After running my own publishing company for the last six years, I'm humbled and excited to be joining the ORiGiN Music Publishing family. I love writing songs and collaborating with the best Australian artists to help their unique voices be heard on a global scale, and I’m thrilled to now have a team who align with my vision and values to take that even further.”

From his beginnings as the brainchild of acclaimed alt-pop band Sparkadia, Alex Burnett has stood out as one of Australia’s premier songwriters and storytellers, able to convey deep feeling and immense personality from the deftest, most tightly-stitched pop songs on a truly global scale.

Whether working on his own projects or with artists like Thelma Plum on her critically acclaimed records Better in Blak (2019) and I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back (2024), Hockey Dad’s internationally applauded album Rebuild Repeat (2024), or collaborating with globally revered artists like Alison Wonderland, DJ Snake, Cosmos Midnight, Flight Facilities, Elderbrook, Motez and Hayden James, one thing that carries through the music is Alex Burnett’s honesty and ability to tell a story.

Having written, producer or collaborated on an incredible 30 songs which have placed in triple j’s Hottest 100, won 12 ARIA Awards, six APRA Awards, three triple j Album of the Year Awards and three Song Of the Year Awards via both the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition and NIMA Awards and achieved over 1.4 billion streams across his songwriting catalogue, Alex Burnett is one of the country’s best-known songwriters — even if many of the fans who have fallen in love with his songs don’t know his name.

Using the wealth of knowledge, he gained from his time spent in the UK, Alex Burnett’s goal has always been to collaborate with the incredible talent in our own backyard, helping to share their Australian stories with the world, while drawing on the idea that art can, and should, touch as many people as possible. He thinks about songs as a necessity, as vital as water or air. It’s this kind of music that Alex Burnett has dedicated his life to making, explaining “I look back on things like Thelma Plum’s debut record – that covered some big and important issues. I was so happy to be a small part in making those songs real.”

With a similar vision and passion for sharing Australian stories, Sydney-based ORiGiN Music Publishing is a family run, fiercely independent music company that focuses on long term artist development. Established in 1993, ORiGiN is built on originality, diversity and creativity; an ethos that has seen the company thrive for over 30 years to become one of Australia’s strongest independent music groups across publishing, recordings, production music and musical theatre, with a dedicated team that has built a strong reputation based on loyalty and authentic service to clients.

Now, with several projects in the works, Alex Burnett joins ORiGiN Music Publishing’s impressive roster that includes Gotye, Meg Washington, Katie Noonan, Thomas Porter, Andy Golledge, Eric McCusker, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, The Beefs, Garry Frost and Eddie Rayner.
