It’s safe to say, Golden Guitar winner Angus Gill has never fit into a pre-existing box - he is his own box. The prolific singer/songwriter and producer is the definition of an artist, creating with his heart and writing what is real. With six number one radio singles and over thirty five songs recorded by other artists in the last year, Gill is a new generation songwriter’s songwriter.
 
Once again, he’s teamed up with the members of Paul Kelly’s touring band, as Angus Gill and Seasons of Change, offering the poignant track Little Green Man, featuring and co-written with Billy Miller (The Ferrets). This is the second single lifted from their forthcoming second album, to be released in August 2023, marking the fifth studio album for Gill.
 
Little Green Man is a moving song about fathers and daughters, inspired by a chapter of acclaimed author Trent Dalton’s 2021 bestseller Love Stories. Respected music journalist Bernard Zuel described the song as a “mid-tempo pop charmer”, while keyboard player Cameron Bruce sonically compared the track to Joni Mitchell’s Hissing of the Summer Lawns record. The song was conceived over email, with Gill writing the lyrics and Miller writing the music.
 
Gill said, “I was so taken aback by the chapter The Crossing in Trent’s Love Stories that I started working on a lyric. The story of a 12 year old daughter and her father, approaching a set of traffic lights on Queen Street in Brisbane. The song’s narrative takes place in the space of about 30 seconds, as the father & daughter experience a closeness, in front of the flashing Little Green Man. I wrote the lyric over the space of a few weeks and when I had something I considered close to finished, I sent it to Billy. He sent me back this beautiful musical arrangement, which perfectly complemented the lyric.”
 
Miller said, “I loved Little Green Man from the start. There was inspiration everywhere, from Angus’ lyrics which were inspired by Trent Dalton’s book LOVE STORIES, then more inspiration from me when Angus sent me an a cappella vocal with nothing else but a drum loop. I’d never collaborated on a song that way, so I came up with the most beautiful chords I could imagine for the song, then the final inspiration came in the studio when we recorded it with a group of Australian legends.”
 
Dalton praised the pair’s efforts, remarking, “It's so flipping beautiful mate! To turn something you read into such a beautiful song about fathers and daughters and time and life ... well... that's about the best thing I could ever think happening! It means so much to me, as a father of daughters myself.”
