After a lengthy hiatus since the debut release of “FEEL THIS WAY” (July 2020) caused in part by Covid, but more so due to the joyful arrival of second child, daughter Joan, Adelaide based singer songwriter Jessica Braithwaite returns to release her second solo single “WHO YOU KNOW”. Jessica’s musical journey stretches back a fair way with a few twists and turns along the road. While still at Uni Jessica and her musical brother were part of a folk pop band called Gemini Downs. They got plenty of attention with their music via Triple J as well as many local South Australian community radio stations. They were also part of the line-up of what was one of Australia’s biggest music festivals Big Day Out. A noted ABC radio announcer described the band’s music as ‘like a rainbow following a storm”.
Jessica’s journey took her to South Africa where she worked as a music teacher at a remote orphanage near the Zimbabwe border. It was there, with those incredible kids, under the shadow of the Drakensberg Mountain range, that Jessica started developing her desire to write original songs with a fresh perspective on the world. Back in South Australia Jessica landed a job in television that has continued to this day. In between hosting weather reports on Channel 9 and raising a young family – Jessica has found opportunities to perform, record and develop her songs. Despite the diversions and distractions her passion for music has not diminished. That passion extends to devising her own independent release strategy. The clever video Jessica made with a bunch of friends for “FEEL THIS WAY” went viral and captured the attention of mainstream and social media worldwide. Being an independent artist has empowered Jessica to do it her way. She is excited to be part of a growing movement of self-empowered independent artists and gladly contributed to the Australian Independent Record Label Awards – AIR Awards – as Co-host with Dylan Lewis for the online broadcasted awards event for the past two years. The anthem like vibe of “FEEL THIS WAY” and now "WHO YOU KNOW" is the result of a collaboration with co-writer Bridget Benenate (Kelly Clarkson, Delta Goodrem) and producer Stuart Brawley (Michael Jackson, Cher). The feel-good social message in the songs have a global connection – especially in these turbulent times. "WHO YOU KNOW" is released on October 15th via Believe on all streaming services worldwide.
