Michael James Lee has been scoring for TV and film since 2008. He originally moved from Auburn, CA to Los Angeles when we was 17, and began playing in bands around LA for the next 8 years. Living in LA led to many friendships with various filmmakers around town who naturally needed music to accompany their various projects, and this gave Michael the opportunity to prove himself in the film scoring world. After scoring his first feature documentary for PBS, he ditched the band life and went into scoring for picture full time. As the scoring jobs continued to grow, he did his due diligence and attended UCLA’s film scoring program where he studied the craft of writing for live orchestra. Coming out of school, he scored Netflix’s Emmy-winning “The Legend of Cocaine Island,” HBO’s Emmy-winning “Alabama Snake,” Netflix’s Emmy-winning “The Pez Outlaw,” and Netflix’s hit crypto doc, “Bitconned.” In 2022, he was nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award for his score in “Eat The Rich : The Gamestop Saga,” sharing a nominee category with Hans Zimmer. Recently, he had the opportunity to work with Danny McBride’s company, Rough House Pictures, where he wrote music for their new HBO comedy series, “It’s Florida, Man.” Scoring, mixing, and designing sound for advertisements (Lego, Fortnite, Netflix, Dropbox, Mozilla, Etsy, Cashapp, etc) keeps him busy in between films. He recently relocated his work and family from LA to Reno, Nevada, where he built a state of the art studio and a beautiful home for his Fiance Olivia, son Milo, and dog Leroy.
