John Phillips is a sound designer, composer,  musician and soundscape artist. John came to the guitar as primary instrument through initially not wanting to be a guitarist, but then rediscovering the instrument as a means to find the space between notes and sound to create soundscapes.

John has worked on numerous film scores, television documentary soundtracks, sound installations and theatrical productions in Australia and other territories. This work spans broadcast media and live performance, in both concert form and installations, the latter in collaboration with visual artists.

He has worked with many like minded creatives, including members of his group Not Drowning, Waving, long time collaborator Rosie Westbrook, as well as Glenn Bennie (Underground Lovers), Andrew Duffield (Models), The Easter Daisies (Lisa Wood), Gus Till (Max Q, Beargarden, The Ears), Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil), Linda Laasi, Philip Gunter and others.

Record productions include the Not Drowning, Waving catalogue, and numerous other releases including Christine Anu, Charles Maimarosia, Radical Son, Archie Roach, Yothu Yindi, Hugo Race, Gus Till, Glenn Bennie, Andrew Duffield and Kaye-Louise Patterson.
