Jessica Braithwaite is a chart topping songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She plays guitar, piano, harmonica and even tap dancing percussion - a crowd favourite at live shows!
Her pop country ballad 'Who You Know' made it to no. 1 on Australia's AMRAP radio charts, and her irresistible Christmas hit 'I Still Get Excited For Christmas' debuted at no. 5 on iTunes.
Jessica doesn't just deliver sunny vibes with her music. As a Channel Nine weather presenter, she also brings a dose of sunshine into our living rooms with her prime time weather reports.
Jessica was commissioned to write the theme song for Channel Nine's travel show Hello SA, and has performed on some of Australia's biggest stages, from the Big Day Out, to the Adelaide Guitar Festival, to 40,000 people at Carols by Candlelight.
Jessica’s musical journey stretches back a fair way. It all started sitting on her bedroom floor with her brother in hometown Mount Gambier, drawing circles around the chords they liked the sound of on a guitar chord chart.
While living in Chile and studying documentary making in Spanish, she camped around South America with a guitar and harmonica in her backpack, playing at local parties along the way.
At uni, Jessica and her musical brother were part of a folk pop band called Gemini Downs. They got plenty of attention with their music via Triple J, with one noted ABC radio announcer describing the band's music as "like a rainbow following a storm”.
Jessica’s journey then took her to South Africa where she worked as a music teacher at a remote orphanage near the Zimbabwe border. It was there, with those incredible kids, under the shadow of the Drakensberg Mountain range, that Jessica started to develop her desire to write original songs with a fresh perspective on the world.
That passion extends to devising her own independent release strategies. The clever video Jessica made with a bunch of friends for 'Feel This Way' captured the attention of mainstream and social media worldwide.
Jessica's way with words extends beyond the recording studio. She's had national travel and lifestyle articles published with Australia's top media brands, and works are underway for a series of children's books.
Being an independent artist has empowered Jessica to do it her way. She is excited to be part of a growing movement of self-empowered artists and has gladly co-hosted the Australian Independent Record Label Awards – AIR Awards – with Dylan Lewis since 2020.
The social messages in Jessica's creative works have a global connection, especially in these turbulent times.
