The ORiGiN label has been established alongside ORiGiN Music Publishing since the mid 1990’s. The label has covered a wide range of musical styles and initiatives including the debut album for the Australian Art Orchestra, comedic albums from the incomparable Bob Downe, Award winning Jazz titles from the Paul Grabowsky Trio, Shelley Scown (with the PG trio), Scott Tinkler, Kerrie Biddell and composer Peter Dasent.
Other releases have included hit singles from Diana Anaid with her debut “I Go Off” and the follow-up “Perfect Family” and the infectious “Home Entertainment System” from Adelaide punksters Lazaros Dog.
ORiGiN Recordings has had 8 albums reach final nominations in the ARIA Award categories with three wins including the ground-breaking Serious Tam album from Papua New Guinea artist George TELEK.
The intention with ORiGiN was always to find and release ‘original’ music projects related to artists who had an association with ORiGiN Music Publishing. The intention was also to find and release Original Soundtrack and Cast Recordings. An early release in the Cast category was the evocative Australian play The Bastard From The Bush – a Henry Lawson play performed by great Australian actor Robin Ramsay.
Now active again, the ORiGiN label is pleased to announce the release of the Cast recording of the musical play CONNECTED – an original topical ‘cyber bullying’ musical written by Craig Christie. The musical has been produced in schools across Australia by ORiGiN Theatrical and is now also being staged internationally.
Also being released on the ORiGiN Recordings label is the Original Soundtrack Recording by Australian composer Cezary Skubiszewski for the documentary feature film MONSIEUR MAYONNAISE. The film has already been screened at the Berlin Film Festival and in Australia at various art house cinemas. It is due to be screened elsewhere and broadcast internationally. Cezary produced the score in Melbourne with a wide range of musicians including Belgian songstress Deborah “Moogy’ Morgan and pianist Luke Howard.
