10 Mar ORiGiN meets ECM Records!
ORiGiN Music is pleased to announce the exclusive representation of prestigious and highly original German label ECM Records publishing catalogue.
The ECM label (Edition of Contemporary Music) was established in Munich by record producer Manfred Eicher back in 1969. While ECM is best known for jazz, the label has released a variety of recordings, and ECM’s artists often refuse to acknowledge boundaries between genres. ECM’s motto is“the most beautiful sound next to silence”.
The label has recorded and released albums from many great artists including Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Charlie Haden, John Abercrombie, Eberhard Weber, Egberto Gismonti, Dave Holland, Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Jon Hassell and Thomasz Stanko to name but a few.
A new Tomasz Stanko New York Quartet album titled ‘December Avenue’ – his 12th album with the ECM label – recorded in the South of France with Eicher at Studios La Buissonne the album is due for release this month (March 31st).
Also in the catalogue is a wide range of music for film. ECM’s catalogue includes works by Greek composer Eleni Karaindrou who has written original soundtrack scores for stage and film including Ulysses Gaze (1995), Eternity and a Day (1998) and The Dust Of Time (1999).
Works by Kariaindrou were also included in the soundtrack to George Millers most recent Mad Max film Fury Road.
In many cases ECM Records holds the rights to the publishing of the compositions recorded for ECM releases.
The artistically aesthetic physical album releases are still active in markets all over the world including Australia.
Specialist record Australian record retailers including the Title stores, Basement Discs, Thomas’, Birdland & Red Eye as well as JB Hi Fi all continue to stock and sell a broad range of ECM titles old and new. It is one of the few labels in the world that has had a consistant level of quality, style and following.
ORiGiN is pleased to be the exclusive representatives of the catalogue for Australia, NZ and for digital rights in the Pan Asian territories covered under the recently announced arrangement via APRA AMCOS.
“It’s a perfect fit for ORiGiN” says ORiGiN Creative Director Philip Mortlock. “We have a focus in music that creates a point of interest – whether it be jazz, ambient, world, (contemporary) classical and or music composed for film, TV or theatre.”
